Aaron Johnson is a jazz bassist (upright and electric) with over 20 years of experience, both live and studio. Aaron has had the privilege of studying with many jazz luminaries including Nick Schneider, Jeff Campbell, Karyn Quinn, Orbert Davis, Mark Davis, and Jim Paolo.
Aaron got his start in jazz at an early age thanks to his stepmother, Karen Johnson, a renowned band director and one of Wisconsin's preeminent jazz educators. That initial exposure to jazz led to numerous festival soloist awards, scholarships, and membership in the Wisconsin State Honors project.
During the mid to late 1990's, Aaron had the pleasure of studying and performing with Orbert Davis as a part of Chicago's jazz scene. Living just steps away from the famous Jazz Showcase presented Aaron with the opportunity to personally meet many of his jazz idols, including the late great Ray Brown.
Over the last decade Aaron has been actively performing in southeastern Wisconsin with a variety of groups, playing everywhere from the Helen Bader Recital Hall to Summerfest. He currently divides his time between his own jazz quartet, the Swingin' Company B Big Band, The Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, session work, and being a "hired gun".
