As a child, I took piano lessons but never enjoyed it.I wish I had, but unfortunately I was not a fan of structure. That is why most of my piano parts are so simple. It has more to do with my inability to musically complicate things than a disinterest in composite multipart music. In high school I enjoyed writing poetry but never thought about making any of it into songs until one day I wrote a piano piece just by playing an easy ground base and a melody. There were no lyrics, but I liked the way it sounded.I began writing more and more poetry, inspired by anything from frustrating boys to family issues, while keeping in mind certain melodies that I could possibly sing them too.
With no intention of people actually caring to listen, I wrote and composed more and more music until I have finally found my sound, voice, and style that comes from daily life experiences and common human emotion. With that,I hope to create music that both relates to the lives of the listeners, and to my own.I have been compared vocally and lyrically to Regina Spektor,Feist, and Kimya Dawson–which is an honor because these musicians are so very gifted.
‘Creating’is one of the most important things in the world to me, whether you draw, write, cook, invent, paint, build, or even scrapbook.Just doing something that you can say you made is the most rewarding thing in the world. This is why I do what I do.I am inspired everyday by things and people that make me want to create something more from the time and events that I experience with them, regardless of whether those people, things, events make me laugh, smile, or cry.If someone were to ask me specifically what inspires my music, I would have to say that it depends on the song. But generally, like most artists, the most motivating muse is sadness and inner pain, and to be able to somewhat describe that pain through words and song. It’s a gift that I am very thankful for.I hope that you enjoy my music as much as I enjoy making it.
