Heartroot / Bio

Folk Americana duo Heartroot is a musical partnership made of multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriters Mindy Dillard and Eric McEuen. Currently based in Berkeley, CA their musical adventure started in Portland Oregon in 2010 after each had moved there from the Southwest: Mindy from Salt Lake City, Utah and Eric from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Each grew up in the high desert with a mountain panorama to dream about and explore. They discovered they had this in common as well as compatible tastes for harmony. That helped them cultivate a dynamic and unique performance that is joyful yet raw, their voices not only soaring in tight, sweet harmonies to the highest peaks but also dipping into the lowest valleys both in emotion and in pitch. They are not only storytellers, but also storymakers. They seek to bring the audience into their stories at each concert, inspiring them to live their own stories with passion and abandon. “The big question is whether you are going to be able to say a hearty yes to your adventure.” – Joseph Campbell

Heartroot plays a mix of their many originals, co-writes and co-curated covers they’ve collected and arranged from across the genres of contemporary and traditional folk, musical theatre, blues, soul and pop-rock. Throughout their performance the audience may be treated to guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, glockenspiel and sweet A capella. They’ve honed their performance over the last 4 years, playing at coffeehouses, house concerts, festivals, farmers’ markets, churches and other small listening rooms regionally and nationally. Heartroot is sparkling, soul-seducing harmony and raw joy.
