You really can’t put a finger on exactly what KUDZU is musically. Yes, they are a country band; yes they are a rock band, but more than that they are musicians. Not wanting to be pigeonholed into one genre of music, the band name was selected to indicate that they were from the South. That is all the expectation that they wanted to offer listeners. The ability and discretion to play whatever songs that they thought would go over with their audience has led this Maryville, TN band to some rapid growth.
Bassist/keyboardist and vocalist Charlie LaFountain and rhythm guitaris/ lead vocalist Timm Flatford founded the band in 2009 and since then have averaged over 70 shows a year all over Tennessee; an listener would be hard pressed to say KUDZU has never performed at venue near them. Lead guitarist Jack Pribek joined the band in 2012 bringing a wealth of touring experience and adding a bluesy edge to the groups sound. The newest member is drummer Rick Rand, a veteran player with many years experience in several different genres. All these pieces come together to make a unique sound that crowd of all ages and musical tastes enjoy.
Groundwork is being laid now for a third CD to join “Kudzu” and “Not Afraid” the bands two previous releases on Spin Records. Sit back and relax and let the vine spread!
