Self described as “trans-atlantic neon rock”–a vibrant and edgy rock infusion with varied influences from England and the United States–Equal of Kings was founded in Portland, OR in November of 2009. They played their first show together at Portland’s Red Room in June of 2010.
The name Equal of Kings has deep meaning. In England, kings are regarded as revered and worthy of the utmost respect. To the band, all people–regardless of background, status, or life experience–are equal of kings and deserve the same dignity and value. This positivity is artfully expressed through lyrics that are straight from the heart and expressing the full range of genuine emotions that occur throughout life.
Each member brings a diverse background and playing experience to Equal of Kings. Front man Andrew “Chad” Chadwick hails from Manchester, England, and plays guitar and sings lead vocals. He began playing music at a young age in England, and has experience playing guitar, bass, and drums. Chad traveled around Europe as a member of several different bands playing psychedelic, punk, and rock and roll, coming to the United States in 1991. Jason Frischetti plays guitar and sings back up vocals. He is originally from New Haven, CT, where he started playing music as a self-taught drummer. He then went on to receive his degree in guitar performance from the Musician’s Institute in Los Angeles, CA, and considers himself a classic rock enthusiast. Finally, drummer Alex “Al” Bay rounds out the group. He is a native of Portland, OR, and has experience playing with many bands in the area. Al has an incredible range of experience playing hard rock, old school country, rockabilly, Americana/indie, and jazz.
In September of 2010, Equal of Kings finished recording their debut album, “Ships of September.” The album has just been released, and Equal of Kings are excited to begin sharing their unique and authentic rock and roll energy with the Portland music scene.
