Early January of 2006 marks the beginning of Controller. Initially Controller existed as collaborative industrial project between producers Aaron Pack and Brandon Linney, but has now grown to include a group of diverse musicians from varying backgrounds.
Aaron Pack brings influences from the New York and Detroit industrial scenes as producer\programmer and bassist. Though Aaron structures his writing around guitar and synthesized melodies, this structure is offset by pinning the melody in front of heavy and broken sound-scapes.
An early addition to the band after its initial inception was singer\songwriter Johnny Martin. Johnny immediately increased the depth and accessibility of the band with his lyrics and vocal range. The contemplative lyrics are complemented by the wide ranging dynamics and emotions the singer is able to convey.
Guitarists Derek Gallier and Marcus Fears bring the noise. Derek posses mad chops and is able to push the underlying ideas of Controller’s music with the ferocity of his pick. Marcus adds a dimension of depth as the master of effects pedals; his pedals become more than an addition to the guitar and more like multiple instruments. The combination of Derek and Marcus adds to the overall emotional tone of the songs, reinforcing the hard hitting lyrical and vocal content.
The thick driving sound Controller puts out would not be possible without a strong and adaptive drummer. In early 2010 Jason Dobbs took the stage as drummer, after producer Brandon Linney had to move on to other projects. Jason further adds an element of showmanship to the Controller stage by displaying his Metallica, Motley Crue, and Skid Row influences in his intense style.
Now scheduling live shows, Controller is looking to expose their musical parts to the world.
