Tara grew up in a small town called Kenora in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. She cut her teeth on country music, and has fond memories of driving around with her dad in his Chevy half-ton listening to Merle Haggard, Dolly Parton, Don Williams, Johnny Cash, and just about anything else with a fiddle or a steel guitar in it.
While growing up, she performed in a couple of cover bands as a keyboardist and vocalist, and studied piano and voice privately. In 1995, she was featured in a televised talent search show in Nashville, Tennessee.
In 1996, Tara moved to Kingston, Ontario and completed a Bachelor of Music at Queen's University (BMUS 00). She continued to perform regularly in karaoke contests and singing competitions. In 1999, Tara was a finalist in the Kingston Country Singing Showdown, alongside Avril Lavigne, who went on to win the competition and begin a successful solo career.
Tara moved to the UK in 2001, and works as a school teacher. She continues to sing and play regularly as a solo artist.
