“I didn’t decide... It chose me... This is what God purposed me to do.” ~Clinton Babers II
When acoustic soul meets rhythm and blues, nothing can compare to the warm and soulful sounds that the union creates. Unlike anything that you've ever heard before, the raw and unbridled talent of Clinton Babers II is undeniable and can be heard all over the South and beyond.
Growing up in the small town of Snowdoun, Alabama, Babers was never a stranger to hard work. Being brought up by talented musicians and a musical family, he began singing soul and gospel songs at the tender age of two and later began to learn the piano at the age of three, which was introduced and taught to him by his grandmother, his uncle Herbert, and his father. As time continued, Babers continued to grow in his craft. While listening to greats like Ray Charles, Lou Rawls, Stevie Wonder and Anita Baker, he found that music was a great way for him to express himself and it propelled him into his ever growing musical journey.
Throughout his teens and young adulthood, Babers learned and mastered 17 different instruments, through dedication as well as his phenomenal musical prowess. His undying passion for music lead him to the position of assistant band director at Ramsey High School in Birmingham, AL. as well. “My soul lives for music, and my heart beats for the children." -Babers
During a five year span of inspiring and trying life experiences, he recorded his freshman album “I’m Open" (The Journey to Learning The REAL Me), which is set to be released in the summer of 2012.
“I’m Open” tells a vivid story of a boy who's grown into a man, while navigating experiences like love, heartache, joy, and triumph. “Where Did You Come From” and “For You” are among some of the ballads that can be heard on his project. He says, “My inspiration comes from what I relate to, see and have experienced. I can’t write about anything I don’t know about.”.
Fans and colleagues alike describe Babers’ sound as "mellow, warm, passionate, strong, and sincere". He is a musician who becomes one with his guitar as soon as he touches it and once he starts to sing, his voice will take you places you've never been.
Babers can be found performing in different cities throughout the U.S.A and internationally with the Joe Brooks Trio. He's also recently had the pleasure of working with his mentor Leon Timbo, Tyrese Gibson, Kerry Marshall, Sebastian Kole, Joe Brooks, Tyrone Wells as well as many others.
Clinton Babers is traveling the world, making his mark in every stop, and doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon. He's just wrapped up an Asia tour with Joe Brooks Trio, singing and playing keys, and is now touring the US and preparing to tour with the trio in the UK this fall.
