Many of you who frequent the Birmingham, AL theatre scene have already met her on multiple Birmingham stages such as the Virginia Samford Theatre, The Cabaret and the historic Alabama Theater covering a wide range of music and artistic styles. Although Kristy’s professional path initially led her into the public schools as an educator teaching works by Harper Lee, Frost and Hughes, her musical childhood companions of Puccini, Ella, Sondheim and even The Man in Black instilled a passion and force inside Kristy that remains. These musical companions challenged Kristy to pursue her “dream deferred” today… and not some day.
What began as a goal to team up with Birmingham’s music legend, Marc Phillips, and a team of noteworthy jazz musicians to cover some loved standards, evolved into a fertile songwriting experience for Kristy. Collaborating with Marc in the studio to create jazz/gospel arrangements for her self-penned songs, Kristy has completed her debut album of loved classics and ear-catching brand new jazz/gospel originals! So, the music of her childhood, and the love of story telling nurtured during her classroom days have finally joined hands and walk together on the same path today.
Prepare yourself to hear Kristy’s smooth interpretations of sultry jazz, bluesy gospel, and even several surprises thrown in for good measure. Her lilting soprano explores the colors and strengths of her instrument to tell the stories of these songs, old and new, in her own way. Kristy has never been afraid to take the road less traveled or color outside the lines. And, now, after a journey of embracing the passions of her heart and the gifts given to her from above, she shares with you her debut album. So, open the ears to your heart as you listen along, and you, too, will find yourself, "Dancin’ on the Wind".
