Joey Pero’s critically acclaimed debut record Resonance and storybook live adaptation, have been consistently inspiring audiences and critics alike to laud Pero as: “quite possibly one of the most unique artists in decades.” The seamless movement between musical genres has musical greats such as Wynton Marsalis, Freddy Cole, and Phoebe Snow saying that Joey has created an entirely new style of Jazz music; one that is exciting and fresh, and very necessary to inspire a new generation.
“The world has needed a musician like Joey, he will define an entirely new style of music and musicianship, but most importantly he is exciting to people of all ages.” ~Phoebe Snow
At 28, Joey is an alumnus of The Juilliard School and the New England Conservatory. He has been mentored by Wynton Marsalis (who gifted Joey his 24 Carat Gold, Monette horn), Charles Schlueter (Boston Symphony), Ray Mase (American Brass Quintet), and Maynard Ferguson, (who Pero also toured with in 2005).
Pero’s live adaptation of Resonance has had audiences laughing, crying, screaming and standing night after night. In a recent review of the show AllAboutJazz.com said “Pero’s mature beyond his years trumpet skills spew sparks from his trumpets, he has the scream chops of Maynard Ferguson, the technical wizardry of Allen Vizzuti, the jazz tech chops of Clifford Brown… Joey’s boyishly engaging onstage ike with tux and scarf donned, spit curls draped over head seem to make this writer believe this kid is truly and American Idol.”
