Exhausted Pipes is a three-piece indie/folk-rock band from Berkeley/Oakland CA. Singer/song-writer Hunter Steers, drummer David Mayman, and bassist Andy Landgraf met during college in Stockton, CA. They formed the roots of Exhausted Pipes in 2009 and have since taken to the East Bay to continue making music. With a loud blues-based attack and a heavy indie rock sound, Exhausted Pipes is sure to get your average smoky, drunken bar room crowd dancing. They are known for their energetic, loud, infectious performances, and deliver one of the biggest sounds you've heard from a three-piece.
Their debut eponymous album was produced, recorded, engineered, mixed, branded, published, and even hand-printed by the members of the band. This album meshes folk, blues, and post-punk revival while maintaining an emphasis on catchy melodies and memorable lyrics, sealed with solid three part harmonies. It was released independently on Friday, Dec. 2nd, 2011.
Exhausted Pipes has opened for popular touring acts such as the side projects of Of Montreal and of Rogue Wave, and has played at notable venues around the bay area such at Kimos, Grant & Green, Bec's, and The Uptown. They were also featured on Heidi and Frank's "Stay or Go" on XM radio in December 2011 where they received a unanimous vote to "Stay" and a 91% online rating (the best to date.)
Influenced by early 60s British beatgroups and electric folk artists (The Kinks, The Beatles, Bob Dylan), modern garage rock and post-punk revival groups (Franz Ferdinand, The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, The White Stripes, The Raconteurs), and several indie rock bands (The Fratellis, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah), you can be sure that you’ve never heard anything quite like them.
Exhausted Pipes focuses on an extremely high-quality sound in live and recorded performances and self-records, produces, engineers all their material so far.
Formed in 2009 at the University of the Pacific, Stockton, CA, during the members’ college years, the band was created as a 2-piece garage band by Hunter Steers (vocals/guitar) and Ian Keighley (vocals/drums) of Avon Union, but has since expanded into a 3-piece containing members of both Avon Union (Stockton, CA) and Sick Boy (Stockton, CA).
