A southern girl, born in Tennessee, Andrea Carlson and moved around all over the country growing up. In high school Andrea settled in Chicago, and attended college there too. At first, she was a student of Fine Art at Columbia College. Then later, at the American Conservatory of Music, where she earned her BM in Classical Guitar. She also was a singer and loved jazz. Throughout her studies she moonlighted as a vocalist with several different bands doing music from the 20s, 30s, and 40s. This continued for 10 years, and she was able to perform in many of the top venues and festivals- a highlight was opening for the one and only James Brown!
Once moving to Philadelphia, however, she began to perform solo with her classical guitar singing and playing the standards of jazz. She found herself writing extra lyrics to the songs, and sought new ways to arrange them. Through this interest and experience she began composing songs of her own.
In 2009, not long into her dabbling with songwriting, she entered song writing contest...on a whim! She was a winner that year with the Philadelphia Songwriter's Project. Recently, she won a song writing contest for the 2012 Montgomery/Bucks Music Awards with her song "Mysterious Moon".
Andrea's music is not only refreshing, but it is Retro, Jazzy, Blusey, Romantic and fun! She enchants with sultry and playful vocals as she delivers melodies that sound like they belong in the American Songbook, and with her own spin! Her lyrics have been described as ‘quick and witty, in the vein of Cole Porter’ and her classically trained guitar style as ‘channeling Django Reinhardt’! She has performes in a variety of venues throughout the Philadelphia area, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Chicago, and LA! A Five week European Tour is the works for this summer 2013!
