Known as one of the hottest artist, Shanise King (Miss King) out of the Washington D.C Metropolitan area is what the industry has been missing. She is now working on her first mix tape which includes the singles “Strike 1, 2, 3” and “Black Male”, which touches topics that have been pushed to the side for far too long. Presently, the single titled “Can’t Stop Me” received a massive amount of acclaim, and has been played in local clubs in her hometown.
As a teenager Miss King knew that she had what it takes to be a mainstream artist. In high school she started singing and rapping with her class mates, which created a small fan base that followed her to this very day. Not only did she focus on her artistry, she also opened avenues for other artist all around the world to perform poetry, R&B, and Hip-Hop at her former college Coppin State University. Her organization, “The Eagles Nest” was held every Thursday for two years, and is still in effect today under different appointed administrators. Pursuing her unique musical ability, she started performing her self written lyrics at showcases, open-mics, and open-air events. Some of the places that she performed were the popular clubs; The Island Café in Washington D.C and “The 5 Seasons in Baltimore Maryland.
In between shows and making appearances, she always found a way to be on stage, whether it was hosting a show, dancing, or changing props for a theater she new she had to stay in the mix to excel. Miss King’s long term goal is to expose what living in Washington DC is really like for a male or female, create a non-profit to help the youth in poverty, and to do live shows for as long as she is able. Miss King says that “life without purpose and perusing your TRUE passion is simply a life wasted”. Songs that can entertain, have substance, and have the ability to last, are going to continue to be my main focus”.
