Okolo tha Don Diva is a rose that has blossomed from East Oakland concrete and is grinding her way to the top of the hip hop game. Her career aspirations include a mix of Jay Z’s business genius with the lyrical impact of Tupac, and one thing she is big on is respect. Respect as an MC, respect as an ambitious hard working woman, and respect as an artist who can hold her own amongst the boys club. She is known for her consistency of killing it
Her unique african name means friendly but thats only a small fraction of what describes her. She inherited a music and acting background growing up in Oakland’s Egypt Theatre. By the time she was nine years old it was discovered that she was dope at rapping. Being the product of a southern single mother, Okolo found herself often in the midst of idle time. There were periods in her life where the hustle beckoned her name, but the pull of the music could not be denied.
Tha Don Diva has been certified by some of the game’s elite including DJ Darryl, producer of Tupac’s “Keep Your Head Up” and member of Beats by the Pound. She was the only female in his group DJ Darryl’s Block Monstas, which lead to her releasing her debut album The Real Diamond in Tha Ruff on her own independent label in 2006. It features appearances by Bay Area family members Messy Marv, Laroo Tha Hard Hitta and Latoya London. She’s even worked with producer Ryan “Ghost” Browser whose resume includes the hit “Dilemma” by the famed Nelly and Kelly Rowland.
Okolo’s main objective is to remain focused and her latest project Money Bag$ is no exception. The album is set to be released on her label HereAfter Ent. with digital distribution through Empire and The Orchard. It includes selective production as well as heavy reliance on her lyrical ability, which is whats gotten her noticed in the first place. To keep her fans fed however, the album is preceded by her Money Bag$ Mixtape Vol. I which is currently available on Datpiff.com. She also has two videos in heavy rotation for the singles “Boss Chick” and “Put it in the Air”. Her raw edge swirled with that undeniable it factor makes Tha Don Diva the antidote that brings life to the female hip hop game.
Most notably, Okolo runs her rap career like a business, constantly seeking to improve her brand. She also has a scarf and accessory line that will be hitting the market very soon. The goals keep coming, as do the meetings with record labels like Def Jam who have taken notice of the self proclaimed hardcore-sexy star. Okolo won’t stop until she goes down in history as the hottest female MC and has her plaques to prove it. That winning spirit is exactly what she’s passing along to her twin daughters, her most important venture of them of all.
