The Moonlight Orchestra / Bio

What started out as a duo between brothers, Mehdi and Hadi Mirza is now a full musically charged group. The Moonlight Orchestra formed in August of 2008 having been able to perform all around the Bay Area including showcases in San Francisco at The Great American Music Hall, Cafe du Nord and Bottom Of The Hill in 2009.

The group considers their music a process as an on going project that collectively constructs a form focusing on careful composition while experimenting and exploring each others' influences and tastes deeming a qualitative fit to their evolving sound scape and style.

Having 'prog' rock elements , the MLO's sound has the formulaic aspects that produce explosive music, which carry the loudness of Rock-n-Roll, songs written that bare prosodies or poetics with a dark emotional temperament similar to the spirit of the Blues and the structural intricacies of Classical music where the songs itself are medleys that have an overall climactic flow layered in with sensual and psychedelic sounds that whur and then blend in with their emphasized playful instrumentation.

All in all, it is a pop explosion full of profound lyrical sentimentality with mixed musical sensibilities, recessing in dreamlike sultriness, laced in bluesy and psychedelic guitars, climactic and loud romping rhythms accompanied with rich melodic piano, a folky feelin' violin and the solemn yet full, dramatic and haunting tones of the cello.

The MLO is an ensemble that features two Guitars, vocals performed and sung by Mehdi and Hadi, Roman on the Bass and Piano, Suchi on Violin, Matt on the Drums and an unknown member on the Cello. The position of the cellist revolves while they still remain a unique “rock quintet”.
