Gus Sandberg is a saxophonist and educator living in St Paul Minnesota.
He holds a Bachelors Degree in Music Performance/Jazz Studies from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point.
Gus currently performs with the Jack Brass Band, Mick Sterling and the Irresistibles, and Dr Mambos Combo.
He also teaches music lessons on saxophone, flute, and clarinet through the David Thomas School of Music.
With Jack Brass Band: French Quarter Festival, Krewe De Vieux parade, appearances on WWOZ, New Orleans, multiple performances at Preservation Hall, The Great American Brass Festival in Danville Kentucky, and the Durham International Brass Festival in Durham, England. The Jack Brass Band also performs regularly in the Twin Cities area and has opened for the Rebirth Brass Band, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and Galactic.
With Mick Sterling and the Irresistbles: The Bayfront Blues Festival Duluth, MN Regular appearances at the Dakota Jazz Club in Minneapolis. The Pioneer Theater in St Cloud, MN. The Irresistibles also perform regularly in the Twin Cities area.
With Dr Mambos Combo: Weekly gigs every Monday night at Bunkers in Minneapolis, MN. Special guests with the band have included members of Parliament Funkidelic, Dez Dickerson, Eric Gales, Candy Dulfer, Jellybean Johnson, Roy Hargrove, Prince, John Mayer, Johnny Lang, and many more!
Gus performed in 2010 with the Minnesota Orchestra on tenor sax for the World Premier of Evan Christopher’s “Treat it Gentle” Suite. This piece was a joy to perform and included some fantastic New Orleans musicians like Irvin Mayfield (trumpet), Evan Christopher (clarinet), Shannon Powell (drums), and Don Vappe (guitar).
He has also performed with the Chanhassen Dinner Theater, and plays many freelance gigs throughout the Twin Cities Metro.
