As a kid I was influenced hearing the music of the Beatles and the Woodstock era in my family home, but I've grown and developed an appreciation for just about any genre of music from classic rock to indie, punk, alternative, techno, reggae, jazz, funk, fusion, blues, countrypop, ambient, ballads, standards, classical, choral arrangements, etc. but its my combined musical interests that make my songwriting compositions interesting and unique. I love any music that moves me both emotionally and physically, a song and a singer that conveys a real story, especially music I can sing along to and harmonize with..being an alto. I've found the best way to discover great music is on movie sound tracks.
A former theater arts major, voice over and commercial actor, I'm fascinated with the process of soundtracking movies and its effectiveness on the mood and emotional content of a film. Watch a movie without hearing the music and you'll see what I mean, music brings the raw emotions to life.
Currently I'm into modern blues, indie and retro rock besides classic rock and modern jazz.
When songwriting, my lyrics are based on stories I've heard and learning experiences I've had. I've been songwriting for 20+ years. I'm a sentimental romantic at heart with a dash of midlife cynicism;) Oscar Wilde said "In the world there are only two tragedies. One is not getting what one wants and the other is getting it." In life, the journey is all there is....yet what value does any journey have if it doesn't involve the human heart?
I play electric and accoustic rhythm guitar and love my 12-string especially when songwriting. When recording, I really enjoy the process of arranging the final product. I also do comedic character impressions and songs for fun. Baby Let's Go was one of the original songs I wrote, recorded and entered in the American Idol Season 6 songwriters contest.
The songs I've posted here on my profile were written over the past 10 years and were recorded 5 years ago except 'With One More Look At You' which was recorded in 2011.
