Brian Toogood is a singer songwriter from Edmonton, Alberta. He has spent more than 25 years perfecting his unique style of songwriting. With his trademark vocals and impressive guitar techniques Brian has been a hidden gem in the Edmonton music community for many years.
Brian’s career throughout the 80’s and 90’s was a whirlwind of performing, recording and touring Canada and United States. After many years of rock and roll he decided to retire his electric guitar and turn to his acoustic, in hopes of translating his vision in a more personal and authentic way. This transition found Brian back in his familiar haunts playing coffee shops and taking his new sound back to streets where it all began years earlier.
Once satisfied with his new direction Brian headed in the studio with local musician/producer, Rob Malowany, to recorded a solo album of acoustic songs. The output of these sessions was Brian Toogood’s first true departure from rock and roll with a mature and well-crafted album titled - AS IT STOOD - 2003. This album was a huge success within the inner circles of the music community of Edmonton.
After the release of his first recording, Brian continued to explore and perfect new guitar techniques and styles, bringing his own expressive colour to blues finger picking and country bluegrass. At the same time Brian’s songwriting—revealing a deepening sensitivity to the surfaces of life—has flourished and intensified. With his ripening talent and a hard-won self-awareness of his own life’s path working for him, Brian has composed a wealth of material that he has been performing in small venues around Alberta.
This material, nurtured to the point of perfection, has been produced at Sound Extractor Studios under the hand of local Edmonton producer extraordinaire, Stew Kirkwood. Brian’s new recording - THIS OLD COAT – was released June 2010, on Reminder Records.
