"Jen Whitmore writes and performs acoustic folk music with a twist. Underneath her intricate rhythms and haunting lines, songs are at times deeply felt, often playful, and always original. Her melodies can be jangly and aggressive, while other times dreamlike and mysterious, with a voice so rich it moves the soul." Ian Scott Todd (Review)
Having grown up on a farm just north of Buffalo, I spent much of my childhood retreating to a trestle not far from my home. When I needed to get away, I would pack a lunch and take my younger brothers cheap children's guitar down the railroad tracks. There I used the same book my mother had used to teach herself guitar decades before and taught myself chord after chord. I wrote my first song when I was 14, but it would take years before I played in front of anyone. Music, for me, has always been an escape.
Now, some years later, I find myself wanting to share the emotions I'd rather not keep to myself. Music therapy as I like to call it. I hope to record my music in a studio before the year is out.
