Ubique Records is an independent musical collective based in Dekalb, Illinois. They were formed in 2002 and currently release albums under three distinct monikers: Tall Grass Captains, Grenadier, and the Nyquist Frequency. The Tall Grass Captains functions as the primary songwriting vehicle for Mark Mattson, Jeremy Heroldt records as Grenadier, and Keith Nyquist is the Nyquist Frequency. Craig Swafford is the drummer for all 3 groups, and all four contribute to each other’s projects. They were raised on a steady diet of post punk, 60’s pop, and 70’s AM radio. This common musical heritage informs each album they release.
The members of Ubique met at Northern Illinois University and were in various bands with and without each other prior to forming their collective. What began as weekly demo listening sessions in Mark’s recording studio soon led to collaboration on each other’s songs. Gradually they settled into the musical work patterns they’ve kept ever since. All four work independently then meet to record, drink, and debate. It didn’t take long before these collaborations yielded fruit. Grenadier kicked off the Ubique franchise with ‘Hand Offensive’ in 2005, and the wheels have been in motion ever since.
