Who does Roselawn sound like? That famous question. Comparison. It's something a lot of people hate and sometimes fear in music. Being compared to the wrong bands, you can find yourself in a corner or scene you never wanted to end up in in the first place. Being compared or comparing yourself to big names of a scene can bring a heavy burden of getting yourself at least at eyes height, while still retaining an individual touch and not ending up as a simple clone of the “big ones” in your respective area of music.
If you want to get inside the heads of the guys in Roselawn, just have a listen to their latest Ep "After The Storm"-- Its an actual short story of personal experience. In 3 tracks it relates tales of Tragedy,Pain and Triumph. "The lyrics to the first single, "How Will I Know" provide a little more insight: "How will I know when the pain has gone away / when all that I feel is nothing / nothing everyday."
Then there's that signature--trademark Roselawn sound, full of super-catchy choruses, aggressive drumming, powerful, fleeting rhythms, intricate and melodically precise vocals, with an all around compelling vibe. It's a sound that gives the band that #1 rock single potential.
When looking behind the thick layers of melodies and radio--ready rock riffs you will find passionate and complex feelings explored and addressed by the bands singer Brandt Holmes. "Our single, "How Will I Know", started off as sort of a letter or poem I wrote to a family member who passed recently to help me deal with some feelings of sadness and pain that just wouldn't go away--So I equate it to anyone who has experienced loss or suffering, in that you deal with it and it becomes a part of you".
That said, Roselawn has really raised the bar musically compared to previous endeavors they were a part of, and a lot of it can be attributed to the personnel changes within the band.
"It's a more healthy and happier machine now than it ever has been. We are well oiled and ready for whats to come". Says Holmes.
Roselawn was formed in late 2009 by ex members of the Nationally touring band Down-Stares minus the bands lead vocalist. They have since revamped their line up and landed shows with acts such as Drowning Pool, Pop Evil,Nonpoint,Down,David Allen Coe and many more.
These guys stand out in a sea of same and are defiantly a musical force to be reckoned with. You can expect to see them soon in a town near you.
