The Heretics' unique blend of classic rock with funk, folk & reggae accents has made them an Atlanta favorite for years. Since the band formed in 1994 around the nucleus of Jeff Hix (vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboard) and Tim Butler (lead guitar), the rhythm section has been more like a box of chocolates with an ever evolving, revolving cast of characters that's included the likes of the late Ron Harville (Ike & Tina Turner, Junior Walker & the All Stars), Sam Sims (Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Bette Midler, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston), John Willingham (DoubleWide, Olde Dog), and Eric Johnson (Theodis Ealey Band).
Currently the band seats John Schwenke and Dustin Sargent on the lower registers with Jeff 'Torpedo' Hudis holding the backbone down while Tim Butler continues to blow the roof off on lead. Friend, compatriot, and sideman extraordinaire Nelson Nolen often joins in with his signature mandolin and leslified guitar.
When the Heretics aren't on a worldwide tour of Vinings, their signature sound can be heard at festivals, fiestas, and flophouses all across the Southland.
With 2 releases to their name (Seventh Measure, 1999 / Beyond the Ninth Wave, 2003), the Heretics cook up a savory blend of bluesy rock and roll with a feel good, jelly roll jam band soul.
Their 3rd release entitled "Eleventh Hour" hits stores in Fall of 2012.
