Mudcracker & The Beat are a group from Hagerston, Maryland, fusing a folk, blues player and a group of savvy jazz men. The style blends into tight grooves and wide open jams. From blues shouters, to songs about the sea, vaguely country laments and acid fusion jazz, all the while telling stories of real life, heartache, and joy. Mudcracker & The Beat is a true melting pot of various styles and interests. Formed originally in 2008 as a duo of Trent Renshaw (The Beat), and J Parks (Mudcracker), as a vehicle for original expression, the duo grew to a quartet, adding member's of Trent's exploratory Jazz group The KB Project. Ken Bussey (Guitar, Melodica), and Matthew Lewis (Bass, Ginger). In Fall 2011, the group finished a 9 song, self-titled album, and are preparing to unleash their sound on the planet. A track from Mudcracker and the Beat was chosen for use in the independent film Greencastle, which debuts in March 2012, and has already won awards for sound at an independent film festival. Mudcracker & The Beat hopes to humbly and loosely relate their unique sound to as many music lovers as time and luck will allow.
"From the first chord, Mudcracker cuts down on the
dreadnought with the force and gusto of a big bear turned
loose with a man-sized guitar that looks like a ukelele in
his huge fists. It rings and hums, sings with him."
Jay Parks says he became Mudcracker in the middle of joke.
"Poof. Then it was gone," he recalls. Somehow, the moniker stuck.
His voice comes from somewhere as deep as his navel and the lyrics are involved and intricate.
He will make you listen. Hear him roar.
Mudcracker is a dude or 4. It's a concept, it's a dream, it's music. Love it or hate it, it's sticking around. Get you some.
