Some of the bands most fundamental in shaping contemporary pop & rock music originated in Europe – Cream, Rolling Stones, and the Beatles, to name a few. Tiho Dimitrov carries on the tradition in the next wave of European-born musicians playing the Blues, spiced-up with influences from the Old World, contemporary American rock & pop music, and adding something new, the fingerprint of a new generation.
Born in Bulgaria, Tiho took up classical guitar at age 12, but it wasn’t long before he gravitated towards the sound of the electric guitar and the music of Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Cream, John Lee Hooker, Mark Knopfler, and Buddy Guy. At 20, he moved to the US and immersed himself in the world of blues, rock, and R&B bands. For the next 15 years, Dimitrov played with numerous bands and musicians in New Mexico, developing into a fiery guitar player, and defining his own style and sound.
His local stage experience includes stints with the Motor Kings and Soulman Sam & The Soul Explosion. Tiho also toured nationally and collaborated with Native American, Grammy-nominated artist Star Nayea. Additionally, he’s shared the stage with blues artists Tommy Castro and John Lee Hooker, Jr., Guitar Shorty, and played a couple of shows with the legendary Bobby Keys -- saxophonist for the Rolling Stones, Mad Dogs & Englishmen, Elvis Presley, and the Beatles.
Tiho Dimitrov’s original music reveals a mature musician -- skillfully blending the old with the new. His style is a refreshing combination of blues, rock, and pop. A quote from Trend Magazine’s recent story on Tiho states: “The voice that emerged is steeped in the blues but shimmers with a modern pop sensibility that makes his music accessible yet real.” Michael Dellheim, Director of one of New Mexico’s most popular summer concert events, The Santa Fe Summer Bandstand, comments on Tiho’s performance: “Tiho Dimitrov is god. Oh, wait- Eric Clapton is god. But Tiho is a very close second!”
Dimitrov’s songs are soulful and sincere, loaded with emotion, with catchy hooks. His guitar skills are impressive but his music relies on more than just his tasty chops -- letting the listener discover more as the story of each song is told. Listening to Dimitrov’s music leaves one wanting to hear more. In the words of his audience, every time Tiho plays a show, it gets better and better.
Recent accomplishment include a 2012 award from the New Mexico Music Awards in the BEST BLUES category, and winner of the 2012 Battle of the Blues by Guitar Center & Ernie Ball for New Mexico. In 2013, Tiho placed in the top 50 from more than 2,500 bands from all over the world competing in the Eric Clapton Crossroads Guitar Festival contest, for the chance to play at Madison Square Garden at Eric’s event.
Dimitrov's debut album is expected to be released in early spring of 2014.
