FOR A LITTLE BACKGROUND ON TOM MACLEAR___________________
Tom MacLear is a living legacy of the Southern California Country Rock boom of the 70's & 80's. MacLear was one of those gifted writers, performers and session artists who toured or recorded for such legendary colleagues: ‘The Flying Burrito Brothers’, ‘The Hot Band’, Vince Gill’s & Byron Berline’s ‘Sundance’, Rusty Young and ‘Poco’, ‘The Dirt Band’ and numerous others.
Since those early days, MacLear proceeded to have one of those prolific, quiet careers that very few true musicians have – not the guys on the marquee, but the ones who write the songs, write out the set lists, mentor the stars on the marquee, play the hooks’ and licks that people whistle in the shower or on a street corner, and occasionally venture out with a record or project of his or her own.
If you have not heard of MacLear, you have almost certain ‘heard or seen’ MacLear. Aside from his Country roots, MacLear has written for or played for numerous Rock & Pop greats such as Rod Stewart, Annie Lennox and Concrete Blonde and has enjoyed a career within a career as the front man for the band MacLear during the Celtic-Rock boom.
There were some dark days in MacLear's early career, as he made a few misguided career decisions at a young and gullible age of 20. Signing ‘confidential and exclusive’ agreements with several 'A' list artists, MacLear would spend, what most would say, the prime of his career in the shadows of what he helped make famous. A few regrets followed MacLear through the years, but perhaps his 'prime' has yet to come.
MacLear's 'Nashville Series Recordings': Is a compilation of Tom's life work. His years on the road, his trans-continental life from Montana to Scotland Ireland to Sweden, London to L.A.; blending, nurturing and creating his unique sound from Nashville, Memphis, Detroit, Scot/Irish folk, Muscle Sholes, South-West Texas Swing_ Culminating in his undeniable knack to create a 'great hook' with a simple yet powerful lyric, strung along by a melody that you just can't get out of your head. It's all present here_
'...Material is not a problem here. Tom has performed and written hit songs for some of the best! His unique style, especially his slide guitar, has earned him much respect in the music industry...glad I found him...'
‘the late great_’ Don Kirshner, Producer, Publisher, Radio & TV Host (2009)
'MacLear & Quinn, put the Soul into Country and the Blues into Bluegrass!'
Mark McDernott / Easy Reader Weekly, Los Angeles CA
'Tom MacLear has worked with some of the cream of the musical crop over the years and he brings that musical approach to Music City with his 'MacLear & Quinn' CD... which I have a feeling will be growing sky high in the years to come. It's safe to say that Tom MacLear's ears definitely knows good music, good pickers and great singers!"
