Meyvn is pure power/progressive metal from the heart of Texas. Meyvn combines stunning musicianship with memorable hooks and unconventional ideas to create an original sound that has captured the attention of metalheads and music lovers worldwide.
On September 17, 2011, Rick, Drew, Jon, Ken and Reuben met up to discuss a possible future for the band. It was the first time all 5 had been in the same place together in almost 4 years . . .
The band started in the summer of 2003 when guitarist Drew Creel and keyboardist Charles Shultz met drummer Brad Olson, and started writing material together. They produced a three song demo called "Introduction" (which contained instrumental versions of Revolution, Cadence, and Last Rites) and began hunting for more band members. They quickly found bassist Ken Liao and vocalist Richard Clark, but then ended up parting ways with keyboardist Charles. Thus the first lineup was formed, and the band began working on more songs. By the summer of 2004 the first EP "Last Rites" was completed, and the band began playing shows all over Texas.
In March of 2005 guitarist Jon Simpson joined the band, bringing a whole new level of power and depth to the band's sound. Over the rest of the year the band built up quite a following at their live shows and earned several awards, including "Best Austin Band Overall" in the Edge Magazine's Best of Austin 2005 poll and "#4 Best Metal Band" in the Austin Chronicle's Best of Austin 2005 poll.
Toward the end of 2005 Meyvn began work on recording their first full-length album "Splintered Skies", and in March of 2006 they released it at the Heart of Texas Quadruple Bypass Festival. The album caught the attention of several record labels, and in June of 2006 Meyvn signed with KillZone Records for one album. "Splintered Skies" was re-released in September with a bonus track and extra artwork for worldwide distribution, and the critics loved it!
Near the end of 2006 Meyvn parted ways with Brad Olson, and brought onboard drummer extrodinaire Reuben Posey. Reuben brought fresh, new ideas and inspiration to the table, and the band began writing new material for a followup to "Splintered Skies".
In July 2007 Meyvn performed at TexasMadfest, a progressive metal festival in Houston, Texas, USA.
On October 7th, 2007 Meyvn performed at the prestigious ProgPower Europe progressive metal festival in Baarlo, Netherlands. In Decemeber of that year, guitarist Jon Simpson left the band.
In 2008, Meyvn decided to continue on as a four piece and played a few shows, including opening for Gary Howie. In May, guitarist Drew Creel decided to leave the band. The remaining members looked for a new guitar player for a short while, but then decided to call it quits. Meyvn had disbanded.
