"Once upon a time, there was a girl. She was a waitress at a trendy Mexican restaurant in a slightly less suburban suburbia. At this restaurant, there was a boy. He made the guacamole. One day this girl played this boy a song she had written. Their relationship would never be the same. They have since left the land of avocados and enchiladas but are forever bonded as two happy kids who like to write aching melodies and introspective lyrics; despite both of their penchances for cheeky 80's tunes."
And so began the story of Laletta, the band formerly known as Jenny & Me. Jenny Pilong (vocals) and Stephen Kocher (guitar) originally came together in 2003 to form an indie-pop acoustic duo, when Steve was looking to explore his softer, acoustic side. The two tinkered around with a few songs and some sounds, each still involved with other projects at the time. Then in early 2008, Jenny and her boyfriend (not Steve...contrary to popular assumption) picked up and moved to Las Vegas. When she returned (6 months later…it was that awesome), Steve's exact words were: "Ok. You guys can never go that far away again."
It was then that they truly got "serious" about making music together.
In December of 2011, they released their first album, an EP entitled "NEON HALOS" (available on itunes) as Jenny & Me. It was recorded at The Record Lounge in Philadelphia, co-produced by Andrew Lipke and Jenny & Me, and features the talents of a few friends to fill out the sound. (Hotsy Totsy, Chris Giraldi, Taylor Lenahan, Justin Neri, Andrew Lipke)
In 2013, the two added Kyle Maxwell (drums) and Thomas Barrett (bass) into the mix as full fledged members of the band...making it more of a collective "& Me". Steve had played with both Kyle and Tom in previous bands (Best Wishes and Her Name In Vain, respectively). And in 2014, they brought in Amanda Brizzi (who sings with Jenny in her retro gal group, Hotsy Totsy) to supplement vocals. Plus, she plays a mean tambourine.
With these additions, Jenny & Me officially outgrew its moniker and thus, Laletta was born. And the sound has gone from acoustic, indie-pop to this kind of new wave 80s meets pop-punk fusion. Laletta is currently working on brand new material, reflective of this new sound, and is set to return to The Record Lounge later this year to record their first full length album. "Deja Vu", released November 20, 2013, is the lead single off that upcoming release. It is currently available for download exclusively at www.jennyme.bandcamp.com.
Laletta continues to hone their live playing skills at both Philly and South Jersey music hot spots including Tin Angel, Hard Rock Cafe, North Star Bar, Voltage Lounge, Hebe Music and Studio LuLoo. Stop by and see them some time! They promise to keep your toes tappy and your ears happy... and are rumored to be pretty free with the hugs.
