In 2008 Hey OK Was formed by Alex Minard and Ian Daniels. Alex Minard, originally from New Jersey, Met Daniels through mutual friends and quickly began playing together. In January of 09, They Decided on the name, Hey OK Fantastic, based on the fact with a name like that, you weren't tied down to any sound. They were playing Live in knoxville as a 2 piece acoustic group until march of 09, when they met Sam Harding and Burton Knight. Originally Sam and Burton, going under the name The Dolouz Bros. , were auditioning to be an opening act for a Hey OK Fantastic show that was coming up. The four wrote two songs together and played them between sets at the show. The crowd response was so great while all 4 played together that they decided to join together and Hey OK Fantastic became a quartet. Sam and Burton played mostly old time, blues, and folk music, while Ian and Alex did more rock. They four combined their sound to create a unique blend of folk rock and blues with Burton and Alex switching off, and often sharing vocal duties. From March Until may of that year, Hey OK Fantastic continued to play as a four piece string band around knoxville, that was until, Charlie Murphy, friend of Alex, came in to audition to play Drums for the band. The Night Charlie came to play with Hey OK Fantastic for the first time, He wrote parts to 7 of their songs and was playing them flawlessly. A week Later they played their first show with Charlie on drums. Upon Charlie's arrival, the instrumentation of the band shifted, to give it a fuller sound. Ian Daniels, who was at the time, Lead Guitarist, and occasionally took the duties of Banjo and Mandolin, Took over the duties of full time Bassest. Sam Harding, who up until that point, who played mostly banjo and mandolin, with occasional guitar, Took up the roll Of Lead Guitarist and occasional keyboards. Alex and Burton Continued to share vocal duties, and rhytem guitar. With Alex also playing Bass and Keyboards on occasion, and Burton playing mandolin and banjo as well. The Band went on like this until january of 2010, when Alex left the band for personal reasons and there was a haitus. Shorty after this Burton left to go to Argentina to invest in property and build Yurts. In Feb. Charlie called Alex and told him that he booked a show, and asked it he would be willing to play it. Alex agreed. They went out on stage the night of the show as a four piece, leaving the mandolins, keyboards, and banjo's aside, and playing the same songs with more of a Rock, funky soul, gypsy jazz, sound, that still carried that unique sound that Hey OK Fantastic brought to their sound. The Band felt that this was a much better formula for their songs, which lead to artistic differences as to where the band was going, which ultimatly lead, to Burton leaving the band. That Febuary Hey OK Fantastic went into the studio to begin recording their first studio album. The Self titled debut was released on January 25, 2011.
