My name is Michael "LP Sessions" LaPlante and I love music and performing. If you know me, then you know my friends call me Mikey. I have sung my whole life, performed in theatre and choir since I was little, as a solo guitarist & vocalist for 15 years, a pianist, drummer, and bassist about a decade. Some years back, a friend started calling me LP... I dug it, made it my stage name, added a fidora to show attire and found a visual aesthetic to compliment my music.
I have worked with many original, tribute and cover bands in Northern Califonia, Utah and Texas... notable favorites include Severity, The Rosemont Scandal, Sex on Sunday, I Scream on Sundae, The Space Rockers, Electric Circus & of course all of my incarnations of LP Sessions (LP Session & the Players, LP Sessions' Salt Lake Trio, LP Sessions' Duo, LP Sessions Trio, and LP Sessions' Symphunknik.)Over the years I have been blessed to work with industry pro's including members of Tesla, Cake, Stoneground, and Die Trying to name a few and to share showbills with other amazing artists like MC RUT, Breva, Broken Iris, So Called Tragedy, Track Fighter, Aurora, A Single Second, Prieta, Frank Jordan, Quitter, Mister Metaphor, Musical Charis, Playboy School, Via Madrone, Killing Budah, Adam Roth, Shannon Curtis, Reggie Ginn, and Justin Farren to name a bunch.
I spent fall of 2009- summer of 2010 living and working in Salt Lake City playing at many venues, restaurants, and private parties. In April 2010 after a year of hard work I released my third and best solo album "Walk With Me." The music is fairly accesible to all ages, tastes and persuasions with some innovations to stretch the listeners ears a bit. The experience, is an amalgamation of alternative/rock style with pop song writing and polish that has been influened by jazz, blues, funk, fusion and a touch theatricality.
In July of 2010 I moved back to Sacramento, California to begin rehearsals with my favorite team of players for my follow-up full length album "The Road to Recovery." This album was to be an epic testament to my commitment in music that presents some of the emotional twists and turns of; lost love, the search for truth, and the obstacles we face when trying to reach a goal. It is a progressive/hard rock and experimental album that might kill me trying to finish but will be well worth the journey. We began tracking for the album in May of 2011 and have been in and out of the studio every few months ever since, chipping away at the slow but focused project. This album has no projected release date which is how we prefer it to remain until we feel it has reached it's maximum potential. We have however, played a few specialized live showings of the albums' material and were very pleased with the response.
In June of 2012 I relocated to Austin, Texas to start working with a cover band company called "Stargazer Productions" and began performing all over Texas... which for me was un-charted territory. Recently I have started re-focusing my solo efforts on a more acoustic/songwriter based body of material entitled "Under the Overpass." These song's theme on subjects like; the cycle of life, transitional acceptance, city lifestyle and owning one's burdens. Currently it is being rehearsed with new players in Austin and I am booking and performing solo acoustic shows around the area. This album has yet to have begun it's studio production but is aimed toward production in Nashville, Tenessee.
I also play a wide covers from classics like Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong and the Beatles to contemporaries like Death Cab for Cutie, Minus the Bear, John Mayer, and many in between.
I give lessons, do studio work, play; weddings, parties, clubs, cafe's. Come by and call me Mikey... I promise you'll enjoy what you experience.
