Singer/Songwriter - Country, with occasional mixture of folk/rock with a blues overtone recorded with minimal tracks; however, still a full sound.
Have enjoyed the creativity of writing poetically since I was a boy! So, learning to play guitar in late teens provided a natural step into songwriting. I studied some chord and scale theory under instruction of "Lewis McGehee"- one of Tidewater Virginia's finest acoustic players; of course that doesn’t mean I can play like Lewis, just means I had a good teacher.
In 1985, I met Dave Powell (from same High School – Deep Creek in Chesapeake, VA) at a Shriner’s picnic – I still remember how the conversation went, so you play guitar, let's see those calluses on your fingers (as if to be a doubting Thomas)? After the picnic we became best of friends and co-writing partners up until his death in 2004. He was a gifted tone-full folk singer and lyricist. I really can’t give you the numbers of circumstances, when I leaned over to him while we were playing at a party, and said – “Hey, I dig that one man, who wrote it?” He’d just give me that look or point up! The song was here – and there it goes on the wind of a whiskey breath.
So, I came up eligible for retirement from my day job last year, and thought nothing of it – until the songwriting bug hit again in November of 2013. Shortly after the bug hit; I had a conversation with my Boss that went something like this; I know I said 5 more years before I retire, but if the wife and I scale back – I can spend time doing what I really love (She is very Cool and understanding - Awesome Boss). And so is my full time Boss - I mean my Wife (had to get that plug in)!
So here I am – headin down to Nashville to Song Demo on Music Row – and at this stage in my life; I’ve come to know, it really doesn’t get any better than that - Spiritually speaking!
Peace – hope to meet many of you on the journey - Let Love guide ya!
