Sammy Zone (Samuel Lopez Roman Jr.) was born March 5, 1969 and raised in Manhattan’s Lower East Side in New York City. Growing up, one of Sammy’s many talents was writing Graffiti which eventually led to his nickname “Zone”.
As a young man he ventured out into many fields of entertainment including Djing and Break Dancing. But it was on one fateful afternoon in 1987 when Sammy was walking down the street singing along to his walk-man an A&R person from Atlantic records approached him with the opportunity to begin his career as a recording artist on that label. Sammy became the third member of a group call “Release”. The Group recorded three singles. The Singles were produced by Janet Padlad, Patrick Adams, & Mico “Producer for Steven Spielberg’s Star Wars Soundtrack”. Club 1018’s Host Richie Rich took an interest in the group and started managing them. The group performed at several clubs including “Roseland”, “1018”, “Broadway 96’, and many of New York’s upscale clubs alongside many of freestyle’s biggest names.
Sammy Zone has also released music on labels such as NY Track Records, High Power Records as well Warner Brothers who pushed his music in South America & Brazil.
In 1988 Sammy Zone & N.V. (Noel Valei) started a group call “One on One”. The group was signed to NY Track Records, NY Track records at the time was a small independent label owned by Phillip Rivera owner of “Personal Limousine. Over the years, Sammy has performed on stage singing and dancing in many legendary Night clubs and concerts all around the world. One of his fondest memories is his month long tour in Brazil where he filled stadiums with thousands of fans in 1995. It was so huge he had to be escorted by armed military and Brazilian police. He has also danced for several Latin Freestyle groups and has worked with many of that genre's most successful artists, as well as some of its greatest producers. He has also written many of the songs we love and hear today.
Sammy Zone decided to take some time off from music to start a family, now a devoted husband and father of four beautiful girls, he finds that the music keeps calling him and with his families support, he decided to no longer ignore his passion. Upon his comeback he built a professional relationship with one of freestyles greatest producers “Carlos After Dark Berrios” who has given new life to Sammy Zone.
Together they have released two singles, one titled “Carlos Berrios vs. Sammy Zone ‘Without You” and the other Sammy Zone “Running”. Produced by Carlos Berrios, Executive Producer Fernando Torres and written by Sammy Zone, these songs will bridge the long awaited gap that Freestyle has been waiting for!!
