George Scherer / Bio

George Scherer is a singer-songwriter from Alabama, who over the last 25 years has toured the Southeast as an acoustic solo act, performing his unique country-blues songs to people in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Florida, Tennessee, Texas, Louisiana and North Carolina. During that time he's released three cds of mostly original music, which have been compared to Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, John Prine and Steve Young. His latest effort, "The Election Year Waltz",(2004) is a mix of social commentary and whimsical fun, in just the right mix, so that it doesn't come off heavy-handed. One reviewer said: "This record contains some truly delicious country blues that find their way straight to the soul . . . low-key and sad, as good blues should be, with that crescent glimmer of hope for better times ahead." The song "Two Bush Blues"--a fun-filled satire of the two Bush administrations--caused one fan to say. "I literally spit coffee out my nose when the song came on." One radio host called, it "politically smart and sophisticated, and musically wonderful", adding that it "says things that need to be said." Earlier releases include “Scherersongs”(1996) and “millennieum blues”(1999), and he is currently at work on a new record tentatively called “Headlight Blues”.
