JUNKYARD BAND / Bio

THE Junkyard Band in 1980 when Junkyard began playing they used buckets and cans because these young kids of the projects in Southeast Barry Farms at time did not have enough money to purchase real equipment. They used whatever they found to play, and they didn’t let anyone or anything stopping them from playing. The band performed in TV commercials such as the Cavaliers Men clothing store. They began to get calls from major record companies such as Def Jam, once signed with Def Jam the band appeared in two movies “DC Cab” and “Tougher than Leather” along side Run DMC and Mr. T. While signed to Def Jam under Russell Simmons the band released two national hit singles “Sardines and Pork in Beans” and “Word”. They toured United States playing in well know venues such as Capital Center, Richmond Coliseum, John F. Kennedy Center and the Apollo Theater in New York City with LL Cool J. The band had eventually made enough money to purchase real equipment and made the change. They began performing in night clubs as they became old enough to enter and started performing with folks such as Beatsie Boys, Salt – n – Pepa, Tupac, Roots, Slayer, Ice Cube, Yo-Yo . The band has also release singles such as “Ruff it off”, “Loose Booty” and “Rippa Medley”.
