The Third Wheel Band is an American Roots group from New York City. Established in 2010 by Steph Allen, Greg Barresi, and Ryan Langlois, the band quickly made a name for themselves with their infectious style of feel-good old timey music.
With influences ranging from bluegrass and country, to folk and talking blues, to early jazz and rock 'n' roll their sound digs deep into the past. Their original tunes carry on the traditions of the American Folk songs they include in their repertoire which they lovingly provide a fresh and modern twist to.
Known for their energetic live shows, the band has been described by The Huffington Post as "impossible not to dance to" and "New York's best hidden bluegrass treasure." November 2010 saw the release of their debut album, On Willow Street, which helped put the band on the map and spread their sound and name around New York and beyond.
In April 2012 the band hit the studio again but this time with a new direction in mind. Since all three members in the group are early education music teachers by day, the idea came about naturally to make a children’s album. In the end “Family Album” turned out to be much more than just a kids album, but rather a collection of traditional folk songs and a few originals that are great for children and adults alike. “I’ve been working on the Railroad,” “Skip to my Lou,” and “Buffalo Gals,” are just a few of the selections from this 14 song album which is scheduled for release April 23, 2012.
