Tahir Register was born and raised in the roughest areas of the renowned city, Newark, New Jersey. “It was difficult having young parents growing up in Newark. I am the middle child and often times needed more attention then I got. My mother was forced to become the guardian of her brothers and sister due to their mother being unfit to raise them. It was a cluttered house most of the time, but It didn’t bother me enough to aggravate me, but it did motivate me and for me that was the start of my strong motivation…being ignored.” Tahir often sought outlets where he could express himself. “Michael Jackson hands down is the sole reason I do music and entertainment. I watched him as a child in awe, performed like him, danced like him, wanted to take pictures like him, and followed his career up until his devastating death and I made a promise to him to continue his geniuses. Even though I never met him, I feel like we are connected.”
After years of hard life in Newark, gangs, fighting, being held up at gun point, being robbed, and tormented for being different, Tahir exceled through high school at the famous Arts High, and through College earning a degree in Contemporary Arts. “Everyone is put on this Earth for a reason, and mine is to inspire others through the arts…and that’s exactly what I’m here to do!”
While performing he has shared a stage with, Rah Digga, RedMan, Miki Howard, Mariah Carey, Cissy Huston, Melba Moore, and India Arie to name a few. He spent time singing chorus/background for Tony Nominated Elisabeth Withers in her song “Dream” during high school at huge events and stages he thought he’d never get a chance to see. Now Register splits his time equally producing music, acting, photography, blogging and being a singer-songwriter working hard to break into the industry as a force to be reckoned with.
Coming from a lower class background Tahir felt it important to learn every aspect of the business so that he could completely focus on his future plans instead of working really hard for money to pay others to write, produce, and distribute his music, so he learned how to do it himself, and has had an international single debut on iTunes, radio play in New Jersey, and in LA on Rhona Bennett’s LA Talk Live show Perspectives Corner, and he is just beginning.
Most recently Register started a new Youtube Page which has been getting great recognition from people he looks up to. Avery*SunShine, Vanessa Williams, Maria Howell and Andrea Lewis have all help promote his new inspirational, hilarious, youtube channel. Register has also been featured on actress and daughter of Diana Ross, Tracee Ellis Ross’s website as an honorary winner of the “For The Love Of…” contest, sited for his masterful work in cinematography. He has also been nominated for Three Business Awards during National Small Business Week for his photography company, Tahir Coleman Photographi and took home the Create Change Award. His latest achievement is The B.L.A.C.K Media, a blog he started to uplift the Afrikan American image, it was noticed by Grammy Award Winning India Arie, Grammy Nominated Anthony David, critically acclaimed singer Algebra Blessett, Gospel Grammy Award Winning Erica Campbell, eOne Music Nashville, and GoSickle in support of Sickle Cell Anemia. Tahir plans on growing, learning, and becoming the biggest star he is meant to be. “Stay tuned guys, more music, greater music, acting, photography, movies, everything, its coming to you, my heart to you for reading, stay blessed.”
