“Interbreeding the soundscapes of ‘70s classic rock, funk, jazz & blues, SIXSTEP announce their separation from other sound-alikes who claim to want to bring back the glory days. These guys move forward and create a new sound all their own.” - Diablo Dispatch
Hailed by fans as ‘Vaudeville for the Apocalypse’, “SIXSTEP is a revolutionary band...bringing positive vibes with a groovy sense of humor” to the homogenized rock music scene (Skope Magazine). Fueled by “an underlying ska rhythm that is simply hypnotic” and lyrical quips on our impotent culture & times, SIXSTEP bring “an intelligence and sophistication” to their highly original music that fans of Frank Zappa, Gogol Bordello, Man Man, Mike Patton, 311, and even Queen will appreciate (Music Emissions Magazine).
Influenced by the guitar gods of classic rock & blues, Elliot Koenig formed SIXSTEP in 2004, but SIXSTEP’s sound became much more eclectic when Koenig recruited jazz bassist Jason Glen Peed and theatrical a cappella vocalist Al Rahn in 2007. The trio blended their diverse musical tastes on recordings Par 5 (2007), A Dangerous World (2009), and the blues-rock single “Middle Ground” (2010) before adding drummer Ruben Puebla and saxophonist Michael Cleveland to the lineup.
Following the release of the web-acclaimed House Of Cards (2012), the group’s first studio LP, SIXSTEP began construction on their recording studio, Hear No Evil. The group is currently producing a second studio LP of the same name - a title that both pays homage to their new home base, and satirizes the mainstream music media in standard SIXSTEP style.
“I’m Not An Atheist (Yet)” is the first single from those sessions, and features the legendary Don Preston of Frank Zappa’s Mothers of Invention.
SIXSTEP is currently planning a 2014 Tour of the Western U.S. and beyond. The group is actively seeking management.
