You know how some kids, at the age of 4, stand in front of the mirror and sing knowing that one day, they'll be a star performer...yeah...not me...I, and probably no one around me back then, would believe that at 23, I'd be working on an album and ministering through music.
I was born on the Southside of Chicago with an immediate love for and connection to music. God blessed me with a great childhood--never was the rich kid or anywhere close--but I had everything I needed and most of what I wanted. Music is my passion and I love it all...I don't discriminate! Good songwriting, good production, good playing, good singing and good arrangement makes for GOOD music. I've been influenced by a handful of gospel greats such as Kim Burrell, Israel Houghton, and Smokie Norful, but I have an equal love for great songwriters and musicians in every genre however including India Arie, John Mayer, Stevie Wonder, Musiq Soulchild and Rascal Flatts.
Fresh off graduation (Bachelor of Music, Columbia College), currently serving as MD at my church New Original Church of God in Christ (Rev. Thomas Jackson, Jr.) and freelancing as a graphic designer and pianist, my favorite part of life is writing, performing and ministering POSITIVE, God-centered music. In August 2010 I released The Very Unofficial EP of Jonathan McReynolds, which was a compilation of seven of my best dorm-room productions God had given me. As a matter of fact, it was called “very unofficial” because it was originally intended to be sentimental (and free) Christmas gifts for my family. I never expected God to use that EP as much as he has but ALL GLORY TO HIM! I am so excited to now be signed to Tehillah Music Group/Light Records and releasing in 2012 the conclusion of the whole matter—the completion of the EP—my debut album “Life Music.” The single “I Love You” is now impacting radio worldwide.
I tell everyone I’m not just trying to be different for the sake of being different and standing out, I’m doing it the way God gave it to me. In my album you'll find some what me and many Christians go through on a daily basis: insecurity, battles against the world, the enemy, and within ourselves, doubt, self-discovery, and the ebb and flow of living in Christ. That is all my version of life music is—it may not always be Sunday church music but rather a soundtrack for Monday through Saturday when life really hits and we must continue living in this crazy world but not being of it. God has given us the tools to lead spectacular lives and this album is my journey to accomplish just that.
