Simply put, “Villains of Yesterday” are a gang of die-hard rock musicians, using a wealth of experience and pop sensibilities to create catchy, captivating songs and engaging, energetic live performances. Not a group to shy away from hard work, the band is currently writing material for their third self-produced album, and performing regionally around the Pacific Northwest. 2012 was a year of transition for the band, as they decided to expand their dynamic musical style and change the line-up to a five piece. With shows booked, original members Terry Houser (vocals), Carl Klein (guitars) and Sean Gephardt (bass/guitars) recruited drummer Paul Huppler in February, just 3 days prior to opening a show for legendary German rock guitarist Michael Schenker of the Scorpions and UFO. Bassist John Jet Pagano was welcomed into the tribe in September, allowing bassist Sean to take on guitar duties.
"Villains of Yesterday" hit the ground running in January 2010, releasing their first self-produced EP in April of 2010, and their second self-produced full length CD entitled "Zero in the Sun" in June of 2011. “Zero in the Sun” was recorded in Los Angeles with Brent Clawson of the Los Angeles band "Bullets and Octane". The group also produced their first HD video for the song "Walls" from the album, with the keen visual style of video director Jamie Burton Chamberlin, who also works with ZZ Top & Duff McKagan’s Loaded. Highlights from the album include the songs "Walls", the hard hitting track "Hell or High Water" and the title track "Zero in the Sun". Showcasing how quickly the group has grown, the band created a haunting version of the previously recorded track "Under the Gun".
"There is a chemistry that comes through on the album that is just contagious. We took some chances on certain songs, and they worked" states guitarist Sean Gephardt. While the band may dream of the warm California lifestyle, Seattle has made the Villains of Yesterday feel right at home, and the first single "Bear & Shoulder" from "Zero in the Sun" is receiving airplay on "Seattle's Best Rock" station, KISW 99.9 FM, with many thanks to DJ personality Jolene.
Determined to play for eager audiences everywhere, the band's first performance in January 2010 was to benefit the Earthquake victims of Haiti, and also featured Kurt Bloch's 'The Fixers' at Seattle's "ShowBox SODO". The 2010 tour schedule was highlighted by opening for Shawn Smith (of Brad) and My Sister's Machine during the 2010 Layne Staley Tribute & Benefit Concert at Seattle's famous "ShowBox at the Market". The band has since played several shows along the West coast, opening for popular bands such as L.A. Guns and Blackboard Jungle. 2011 has the group again traveling the West coast and beyond supporting "Zero in the Sun", starting with an album release party Memorial weekend at the Hard Rock Cafe in Seattle and landing in LA, to make their first appearance at the infamous Viper Room in June. August found the band opening for the legendary REO Speedwagon, and the band closed out 2011, with a special Halloween performance at Seattle's Hard Rock Cafe. 2012 found the band opening for legendary rock guitar, Michael Schenker of UFO & Scorpions fame and several sold out local shows.
