The Sweater Set / Bio

2012 & 2011 Best Contemporary Folk Group (Washington Area Music Awards)

The Sweater Set—duo Maureen Andary and Sara Curtin–make music using an impressive variety of instruments: from banjo to accordion to flute to kazoo to glockenspiel to guitar, not to mention their lushly harmonizing voices. The Sweater Set were awarded the 2012 and 2011 WAMMIES for Best Contemporary Folk Duo and have been nominated for 13 WAMMIES in all. BrightestYoungThings nominates them as “D.C.’s most endearing duo,” claiming their attraction to them in live performance was “instant and inescapable.”

In 2011 The Sweater Set were Artists-in-Residence at the Strathmore Center for the Performing Arts, opened for and sang with Dar Williams at The Birchmere and toured the UK, Ireland and the Northeast United States with folk-legend Michelle Shocked. In addition to their own rigorous performance schedule, Maureen & Sara are also in high demand as supporting vocalists and arrangers singing back-up for Michelle Shocked and The Les Paul Trio in New York City and Grammy nominated hip-hop artist Christylez Bacon at The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. The Sweater Set has been nominated for 11 Washington Area Music Awards.
