Brooklyn native John Lander first began teaching himself to play by ear on his toy keyboard at the age of 3, and since has been developing himself- not only into a proficient pianist and multi-instrumentalist, but also into a genuine 'artist' who uses the people, places, things, and instruments in his life to express through creation. John, who has performed extensively throughout New York has also had the honor of being mentored by many great artists, including Arturo O'Farill, Hal Galper, Alvin Atkinson, Kevin Hays, Frank Kimbrough, and Paula Chan Bing, and has passed through the halls of many esteemed learning institutions, including the Juilliard School and the Martha Graham Dance Company, to name a few. Actively pursuing new directions in music, while steeped in the jazz and classical tradition, John has been hired artistically as a pianist, accompanist, composer, arranger, producer, transcriber/editor; and has worked as an artistic director, creative consultant, artist representative, and writer. John is an East Coast Pianos endorsee, and a 2010 Young Arts Jazz Regional Award winner. He is one of the founders of a for-artists-by-artists company called 'Liberated Artists Collective' and is currently heading several bands and projects based in lower Manhattan.
