Zoe Konez is a singer, songwriter and guitarist based in South London.
In October 2011 BBC 6Music DJ Tom Robinson wrote of Zoe's song 'Hayley Don't Say Goodbye' - "understated acoustic guitar brilliance & forensic songwriting precision"
In recent years Zoe has played in Thailand, Spain and toured south east Australia in promotion of her CD Home From Home, with many of the songs inspired by an earlier adventure Down Under.
An advocate of the DIY approach, Home From Home was recorded using one laptop, two microphones and three instruments - acoustic guitar, drums and voice.
Described as “the saviour of female acoustic music” by Two Thousand Trees Festival, Zoe is a distinctive, rhythmic guitarist, using experimental tapping and harmonic techniques with intricate finger picking, in a host of open string tunings.
Zoe's charismatic vocal energy hooks in the listener with memorable melodies, entangled with every emotion. Sincere lyrics tackle murderous neighbours, political comment and exposed sexuality. Past experience singing and playing guitar in prog, hardcore and metal bands has influenced her unique style. Before moving to London Zoe live in East Sussex where she hosted acoustic music nights, championing local and international acts, establishing her place on the south coast’s music scene.
The majority of Zoe’s live performances and recordings take the form of a two-piece band, where Zoe is joined by long-term friend and musical collaborator Will Connor.
Will brings plays an array of percussive setups, from unusual drum kit constructions to hand percussion instruments including an old kettle.
Likened to an acoustic White Stripes in reverse or an organic Ting Tings, the Zoe Konez band is an exciting spectacle of intertwining rhythms. The unconventional line up, original instrumentation, musical chemistry, and passionate delivery establishes a strong connection with the audience.
