Rhubarb Whiskey is an anti-prohibition, punkytonk, hellbilly goth band. The fortunate love child of Bill Monroe and Sid Vicious, they bring you atmospheric, literate, romantic drinking songs that are sexy, rugged and furiously alive. This murder ballad singing gothic americana band is here to charm you with their tales of love, friendship and the devils in the bottle.
Their first self-titled EP was released in April of 2010 and is currently out of print.. They released their first full-length album Cautionary Tales in July 2011. Currently they are at work on their second album and expect to release it in 2012.
Rhubarb Whiskey was formed by Boylamayka and Emchy in early 2008. Boylamayka (Oakland Wine Drinkers Union, Subincision) contributes mandolin, guitar, and upright bass, and vocals to the duo. Emchy (Vagabondage, Oakland Wine Drinkers Union), a veteran of the San Francisco spoken word scene, sings and plays haunting melodies on her accordion. Sizzle La Fey (The Sweet Trade) joined the crew in 2010 and plays the fiddle with leads fierce enough to tempt the devil.
They have played all over the Bay Area, at DNA Lounge, the Swedish American Music Hall, El Rio, The Sunshine Artisan Factory, Starry Plough, and more, and shared stages with Unwoman, Geoff Berner, the Sour Mash Hug Band, The Billy Boys, Bye Bye Blackbirds, T&A, Mars Arizona, Liquor Cake, 5 Cent Coffee, Plasterkatz. Vagabondage, Oakland Wine Drinkers Union, Victoria & The Vaudevillians, and many others.
