Peter Smith is an accomplished pianist, vocalist, arranger and composer whose career has flourished on both coasts. Since moving to Los Angeles from New York in 2005, Peter has played and recorded with some of the best Jazz musicians in the business. A gifted musical director for vocalists, he heads the band for actress Molly Ringwald and arranges all of her music. Peter features Molly on his debut album "HERE IT COMES," and they just finished Molly's debut recording, for which Peter wrote all of the arrangements and produced. Peter also regularly plays and/or arranges for vocalists Patrice Quinn, Dwight Trible, Keith David, James Torme, Janis Mann, Dakota Horvarth, Sherwood Sledge, Sandra Booker, Toni Peete, Mark Arthur Miller, and many others. Other noteworthy musicians Peter has recorded and played with include Clayton Cameron, Trevor Ware, Charles Owens, Allen Mezquida, Louis Van Taylor, Ryan Cross, Lorca Hart, John B. Williams, Ralph Penland, Kenny Elliott, Jeff Littleton, Michael Beardon, Bruce Forman, Rob Perkins, Edwin Livingston, Robert Kyle, Winston Byrd, Brian Swartz, Gilbert Castellanos, Roy McCurdy, Jacques Lesure, Steve Cotter, and many others. Peter plays regularly at all of the major venues in the greater Los Angeles area and is in high demand for private events and parties.
Peter maintains his relationships in New York (his hometown), particularly with Rozz Nash, a wonderful singer and Peter's songwriting partner in their neo-soul efforts. Their music is featured in the soundtrack to "The Myth of Fingerprints," which, in turn, brought about a commissioned demo for famed producer, Tommy Lipuma. He has also composed music for the film "Bleached," and, more recently, has composed several songs for commercials.
"Here It Comes is and incredibly impressive release by Smith who is certainly a talent worth paying plenty of attention to." -George Harris, ALL ABOUT JAZZ (August 2009)
