Fire Red is a original rock band formed in 2008. The band has a unique sound based on a guitar driven blues oriented rock. The songs are very melodic but also have a driving rhythm section, topped off by a one of a kind female vocalist. Starting in May of 2008, founding members John Buondonno (Guitars) and Mike Powlowski (Drums) had played together off and on for about 6 years since meeting each other on a job in 2003. Their shared interest in music and a wish to continue making music after the break up of their former band A New Low, drove them to seek out more musicians and put together another project. A reply was received from Bassist Jerod Bias, and after a few months of practicing and solidifying their sound as a band, they began the search for a singer. In August of 2008, based on a friend's recommendation, they came across talented up and coming Vocalist Michelle Jiminez, (Formerly of Vinny's Attic). Michelle has a powerful unique female voice and has many times been compared to the likes of Janis Joplin and other greats. The impact was instant, the band quickly began rehearsing with Michelle. In short order, the group began to grow together and create their sound, a conglomeration of their various rock and blues backgrounds and influences, mixed with a flavor and passion fueled by their life experiences, and colorful personalities. The year 2009 -2010 saw Fire Red playing live shows often between the Rochester and Buffalo area in Upstate NY. The young newcomers were truly honing their sound and live performance. The group was asked to appear on Rochester's own 98.9 The Buzz Sunday Night Shakedown show hosted by local legend Frank Deblase which features local music. Fire Red still enjoys weekly spins during the show currently. The band was also featured and interviewed on a local internet radio station. Things were going well for the band and seemed to only get better. However, the band saw a string of setbacks in 2011 - 2012 starting by parting ways with original drummer Mike Powlowski. The group decided to bring in drummer and friend of the band Shawn Coleman as a replacement. After rehearsing for several months and eventually playing a few shows Shawn left the band citing personal reasons and family obligations. Fire Red remained positive and through want adds found Drummer Danny Roelle, a very accomplished local drummer to fill the spot. The group quickly set to work and tried to remain active in the local scene, but once again the drummer position came into question as Danny left the band to pursue other interests. The scenario jokingly was compared to the rock cult classic film "This is Spinal Tap". In 2012 Fire Red was nearly at the brink of breakup, but once again remained vigilant. Joel Gilbert, a seasoned drummer and the Brother of Bassist Jerod Bias was suggested as a replacement for the position. Joel and Jerod had previously played together in a local cover band until they parted ways to pursue separate projects. The band is currently working harder than ever and plans to play more live shows and record a full length album. Fire Red's sound is exactly what the name suggests; A passionate, powerful musical experience that overtakes the listener. The band is an exciting breath of fresh air compared to much of the cookie cutter music of today.
