The Seventh Sons / Bio
Calling Chicago their home, The 7th Sons actually put the miles on to bring their talents together. Individually situated in Oswego, Plainfield, and Homewood the travel time is well worth the end result. This 3 piece locks in and takes off on organic and fluid jams using originals, classics, and B sides as spring boards in and out of these jams. They will often serve up some tasty jamwiches live by sandwiching songs between others. The Sons are just as comfortable belting out some heavy driving music in a biker bar as they are playing Dead standards to their hippie friends at a back yard party, or getting lost in trippy jams that are made up on the spot. All 3 members have the freedom to create on the fly and take songs in different directions, but their ability to follow each other is what keeps the organic jams fluid. 7th Sons originals draw from reggae influenced beats, funky wha leads, and dirty blues heavy grooves. For some reason a little Dead and a little Doors always seem to make it into the set with an occasional drum circle igniting for a finale. Accessible and available before and after shows, the Sons come out to hang with the people they are playing with, and for, and above all they come to have a good time and to share the music they love with old friends and new ones!
Jerry and Steve met at an open Mic night at a Plainfield bar in May of '09 - the two agreed to meet up for a few weekend jam sessions ... which quickly escalated to forming a 2 piece power duo after realizing their potential for bringing a overlooked sound to the music scene covering some of the tunes that influenced and shaped their very lives an souls. The 2 saturated themselves in the jam scene exploring improv music of all different styles by playing with a huge variety of some world class musicians from all sorts of walks of life. Classic Rock to Hard Rock pulled out of a huge variety of jam styles. Psychedelic, hard ass blues to dirty reggae funk, surf rock. The Sons started off by performing improved jams pulled out of covers and renditions of "B-sides" from bands like, Ray Charles, Black Joe Lewis, Black Sabbath, The Grateful Dead, The White Stripes, Tom Petty, Sublime, The Black Keys, The Doors, The Misfits, The Beatles, Motorhead, Johnny Cash, The Violent Fems, Motorhead, Donovan, Rage Against The Machine, Ten Years After, and so much more during their epic, high energy performances.
3 years and 3 bass players later, They finally found a player as fluid and passionate as themselves when Mark stepped in on the 4 string. Bleeding in his own punk background to The Sons rock-funk-blues classics another layer was added. The 3 now continue explore renditions of some of the best songs ever made... as well as experiment in EVERY genre and crafting their own filthy blend of psychedelic, punk'd rock blues into jams and a growing list of original songs.
