Noel Catura

Musician extraordinaire on the tenor, alto and soprano saxophones, flute and clarinet, Noel Catura is an award winner, band leader, sideman, recording artist and educator and came to be through years of studying, playing and struggling in the world of the arts.

Noel’s musical career spans over 30 years performing and teaching in the San Francisco Bay Area, as well as touring around the world. While he is known for his contribution to blues and R&B, his musical genre includes pop, jazz, be-bop, Latin and smooth jazz.

Noel is a 3-time award winner of the South Bay Blues Society Best Saxophone, as well as being nominated for the W.C. Handy Award and the Bay Area Music BAMMIE Award. He has been performing nationally and internationally at festivals including the Montreal Jazz Festival (Canada), the Gospel and Rhythm and Blues Festival (New York), The Notoden Blues Festival (Norway), Belgium Rhythm and Blues Festival, the West Palm Beach Festival (Florida), Bumpershoot Festival (Seattle), San Francisco Blues Festival and Sacramento Blues Festival.

Noel has performed and toured with R&B recording artist, Bobby Womack, Verve recording artist, Joe Louis Walker and Mo’ Muscle recording artist, Sista Monica and was instrumental in the success of the critically acclaimed Chris Cain Blues Band. He has shared the stage with artists such as Dave Weckl, Grant Geissman, Wayne Wallace, Ernie Watts, Russell Ferrante, Charles Brown, Eddie “Clean Head” Vinson, Albert King, Kim Wilson of the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Pat Ford, Ike Turner, Robben Ford, Ron E. Beck, John Lee Hooker, Joey DeFranceso, Duke Jethro, Don Menza, Jeff Lorder to name just a few.

Currently, Noel performs with his band, the Noel Catura Band in Bay Area hot spots. He also performs with the Nineteen Big Band and San Francisco dance band, Big City Review. He is a respected educator and currently teaches private lessons at Music Village in San Jose, California and Ingram & Brauns Musik in Pleasanton, California.
