MARLA GULOIEN’S ARTIST BIO: 2012
True to her vocalist roots and innovative style, Marla Guloien is back in the studio producing her 2012 EP set to include songs that will inspire you to move! Writing new tracks that reflect her youthful influences of hip hop, R&B, and dance music, Marla is bringing together a wealth of powerful vocal textures, catchy lyrics, hip hop beats, dubstep interludes, as well as funky base, piano, and guitar performances.
Her current inspiration comes from her sisters, Krista and Leah Guloien. Both are Canadian national, racing and representing Canada around the world. Krista Guloien is a Canadian National Rower and 2008 Canadian Olympian, and Leah Guloien is a current Canadian National Road Cyclist and Kinesiologist.
Both of these women, as well as the other incredible ladies in Marla’s life, continue to inspire greatness, strength, and beauty within and around her. Marla is writing this album for all of them, and also for all of us who aspire to work harder and be better on a regular basis. Not afraid to believe in dreams, Marla’s life and those in it have inspired her to keep writing and to make music that matters.
Marla's varied musical styles and influences are being unearthed for her second album, bringing forward the chic, urban, and charismatic girl that Marla really is. Originally from Vancouver, Canada, Marla grew up listening to the likes of Lauryn Hill, Snoop Dogg, 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., P. Diddy, Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Missy Elliott, Aaliyah, and Erykah Badu. This is merely to name just a few influences--Marla’s repertoire also extends heavily into other genres such as jazz, blues, funk, and soul.
She's ready to dance and have some fun on stage, so be prepared to hear something very different from Marla Guloien.
