Stephen Coghill is a award winning multi-instrumentalist, composer/producer and recording engineer who's interest in music started as a child. At around 9 years old, Stephen began to play guitar; taking lessons and writing songs. At age 12, an accident involving his left hand occured and Stephen was told he would never again play guitar. He subsequently sold his guitars and gear and worked on healing. Later, after hearing Vangelis’s 'Themes' album at a friends house in 1989, Stephen was inspired to try right handed keyboard composing with midi-sequencing, something he had never tried before. After buying a Roland D-10 synth at Chuck Levins, he came home to find although it had great sounds, he couldn’t record with it. Back to Chuck's and an 8 track sequencer in hand, Stephen set out on his musical adventure. He was hired right away by a friend who was directing Elmer Rice’s "The Adding Machine" for the stage, to score original music. In spite of the fact that Stephen had never written a score before, it won 2 thespian awards in a National competition. He went on to write music for stage shows of all types, corporate shows, TV commercials and even a circus! A self taught musician/composer, Stephen first learned keyboards and shortly after began playing the drums. In 1994 Stephen received a audio engineering certificate from Omega Studios in Rockville, MD. After being in several bands himself, Stephen shifted to covering live sound for other bands and stage shows until eventually moving into studio work full time. Stephen recorded the 24 track live mix for Delerium's 'Epiphany' live DVD and was also Assistant Director. Among his list of accomplishments he has worked with Gary Numan, The Pointer Sisters, Riverdance, Michiel van Erp, Jeffrey Mettling, Mike Phillips, Matt Darey and Don Stapleson. Currently he is producing a CD for folk singer / songwriter Robert Gould.
Although Stephen has written in just about all styles of music in the past, his own personal music has consisted mostly of a New Age / Rock mix, but recently his style has moved towards instrumental Progressive Rock / Jazz mixture. Stephen is sought after for his guitar and bass tech work, repair and upgrades for many artists and area bands.
