Phonolux – An alternative, indie rock group possessing a vintage sound
with modern style.
The concept for Phonolux emerged in 2005 when the band’s founders
Dave Novak and Buddy Calvo were driven to try a unique format for a
musical group. Both being multi-instrumentalists, at first the goal was to create
music without each member being limited to playing solely one instrument
on every song. And so began the search for like-minded musicians who
were fluent in all the essential instruments to play rock and roll: guitar,
bass, piano, drums, and vocals. Eventually, Art Guillermo Jr. and Miguel
Romero Jr. joined the group, completing the band’s line-up. In the Fall of
2007, Phonolux began writing and rehearsing original material with plans
to record their first album, which was recorded and produced by
the band themselves and was released in November 2009.
The follow up album, Nashville Fires, was released in
2012 to positive reviews. In early 2013 Phonolux ventured to Austin, TX to record their
third studio project at Jim Eno's Public HiFi Studio. The EP is entitled "Feathered Fortress"
and scheduled for release July 15th, 2013.
In late April of 2013 founding member Art Guillermo Jr. left the band to concentrate
on family and music production. In May 2013 Armando Mora joined Phonolux on bass
as the band begin to write all new material and rehearse for its return to the stage.
The band also directs and produces its own music videos and continues
to gig regularly in the Texas region.
