Katie most recently served as songwriter, singer, and musician as a member of Something Simple, a now defunct group of folk-rockers - but she continues making music like she always has.
She started making music when she was only 7 years old, when she decided that making her own melodies was more interesting than practicing the piano lessons she was given. She eventually ended up with a guitar, which was more portable than a piano anyway, and the guitar became her instrument of choice for her childhood years, as she traveled Central and South America, and then later Europe and Asia.
Katie first unleashed her creativity to the public as a member of Kenai band 2 Cent Syndicate, with whom she released two full-length albums and a demo before moving to Anchorage. It was there that she joined forces with the aforementioned Something Simple, a band that toured the State of Alaska for two years before disbanding.
Now Katie is working on recording her first, official solo release, 'Katieland,' which has been in the works for a little while now. Actually, this concert that she will perform on Saturday night is to raise funds for recordings that will hopefully be part of that upcoming release. I'm glad to say that I'll be producing that recording, and I couldn't be more excited about working with one of my favorite Alaskan artists, whether on the stage or in the studio.
What I like about the Katie Tallent experience is the comfortable atmosphere
Katie Tallentis a name that always tends to pop up among musicians. She's one of those people that other people like to acknowledge and converse with. That same presence is what defines her on-stage personality. On stage, she's as approachable and down-to-earth as she is in person.
Katie's songs carry this same immediate intimacy that makes the listener feel like they're listening to a song about themselves, or someone they know closely.
Get to know Katie Tallent by coming to her performance, 7 pm, at Make-a-Scene! venue in the Meta Rose Square, Saturday May 31st.
